Catcher Gary Sánchez left Saturday’s Orioles-Braves game after four innings with right knee pain. Sánchez was hurt tagging out Matt Olson at the plate in the bottom of the fourth.
Olson tried to score from first on a double by Austin Riley but was thrown out on a perfect throw home from shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who received Colton Cowser’s throw from left. Sánchez tagged out Olson with his left arm, and then was swung around, landing on his right knee. The play kept the game tied, 5-5.
Sánchez was replaced by Jacob Stallings, who was signed to a minor league contract on June 24th and recalled when Chadwick Tromp went on the 10-day injured list this week with a lower back strain.
The Orioles have used five catchers this season, and have three on the IL — Tromp, Adley Rutschman, who has a strained left oblique, and Maverick Handley, who’s on the concussion injured list.
