Santander Served Up A Loaded Tater

May 6, 2024 by Orioles Hangout

The Baltimore Orioles scored in the first inning and scored in the last inning, they even scored a bit in between. Throughout nine innings the pitching was solid and in the end the Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds 11-1. Not only did the Birds sweep the Reds, they controlled them, outscoring them 16-2 and outhitting them 27-11. The key to the sweep was starting pitching. Baltimore starters allowed 6 hits over 19.1 scoreless innings combined.

Continuing the streak of superb starting pitching on Sunday was Dean Kremer (3-2). He limited the Reds to just 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 6 over 6.0 scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season. Kremer threw 93 pitches, 53 for strikes, in the effort.

The bats were not to be forgotten on Sunday as Jordan Westburg (1 for 5, HR, R, 2 RBI) and Ryan McKenna (1 for 3, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB) homered.

Anthony Santander (3 for 4, HR, 2 R, 5 RBI, BB) hit a grand slam homerun in the ninth to cap off the scoring and the weekend.

Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 5, R), Adley Rutschman (2 for 5, 2 RBI), Ramon Urias (2 for 3, 3 R, HBP) and Colton Cowser (1 for 3, R, RBI, BB) each hit a double in the game.

Albert Suarez showed his versatility by throwing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief during which he struck out 1.

The only hiccup on Sunday, if you want to call it that, was Mike Baumann. The right-hander allowed a run on two hits, walked two and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning. Of the 20 pitches Baumann threw just 9 were for strikes.

BOX SCORE
