The Orioles traded Cedric Mullins to the New York Mets for three right-handed pitching prospects. Mullins, who was the first Oriole to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a season, was hitting .229 with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs with a .738 OPS and 14 steals this season.
Mullins, who was voted Most Valuable Oriole in 2021, also started the All-Star Game in center field.
Earlier, the Orioles traded utility infielder Ramón Urias to the Houston Astros, and relief pitcher Andrew Kittredge to the Chicago Cubs. The trade deadline is at 6 p.m. Thursday.
In return for Mullins, the Orioles receive Raímon Goméz, 23, who had a fastball clocked at 104-mph; Anthony Nunez, 24, a converted infielder; and Chandler Marsh, 22.
The story was first reported by MLB.com and confirmed by an industry source.
Goméz is 5-5 with a 4.63 ERA and two saves in 27 games with High-A Brooklyn and Single-A St. Lucie this season. He’s struck out 48 and walked 25 in 35 innings.
Nunez, who became a pitcher last season, is 2-1 with a 1.58 ERA and five saves with Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton this season. He’s struck out 60 and walked 17 in 40 innings.
Marsh is 4-1 with a 2.57 ERA with three saves in 33 games with St. Lucie and Brooklyn this season. He’s struck out 52 and walked 17 in 42 games.
It’s the second trade between the Orioles and Mets over the last week. On Friday, left-handed reliever Gregory Soto was traded for right-handed relievers Wellington Aracena, 20, and Cameron Foster, 26.
