On a rainy Tuesday night at Camden Yards, the Baltimore Orioles fell 7-4 to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Orioles fell behind early, took the lead in the middle innings and ultimately lost in the late innings, ending their modest three-game winning streak.
Starter Tomoyuki Sugano settled down after struggling early in the game. He allowed three runs over the first two innings, the big blow was a Lars Nootbaar two-run homerun in the second inning, only to settle down and retire eleven of the next twelve batters he faced. Sugano gave up a lead-off double in the sixth before leaving one out later. On the night he threw 91 pitches (59 strikes) over 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits (HR) and striking out 3.
Gregory Soto struck out both batters he faced. Keegan Akin (0.1 IP, R, 2 H, BB) allowed the Cardinals to tie the game in the seventh.
Bryan Baker (3-1) took the loss for his 0.2 inning effort; he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (HR), walked 1 and struck out 2.
Making his MLB debut, Yaramil Hiraldo allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 in 1.1 innings pitched.
Once again the big bat belonged to Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 3, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB) whose fifth inning homerun gave the Orioles the lead.
Ryan Mountcastle went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a run scored.
Ramon Urias went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and a walk.
Jackson Holliday went 1 for 5 with a stolen base.
Jorge Mateo went 1 for 4 with 2 stolen bases.
