That’s Called A Winning Streak

May 27, 2025 by Orioles Hangout

A lot of things converged on Memorial Day 2025, a quality start, an Earl Weaver special and a brisk game (2 hours, 19 minutes) in front of 21,717 fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. That convergence resulted in a 5-2 win by the Baltimore Orioles over the St. Louis Cardinals, the team’s third in a row.

Starter Charlie Morton (1-7) provided the team a quality start, his first since Sept. 15, 2024. The seasoned right-hander needed 86 pitches (56 strikes) to navigate 6.0 innings in which he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (1 HR), walked 2, struck out 5 and hit a batter. Morton pitched a clean third inning and thanks to a double play face the minimum in the fourth. The Cardinals’ Pedro Pages touched him for a two-run homerun in the fifth.

Facing the team that drafted him in 2016, outfielder Dylan Carlson (2 for 4, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB) hit a three-run homerun to centerfield in the fourth inning. As the injuries mount Carlson has seen his playing time increase and over the past 8 days he is hitting .316 with 3 runs scored, a double, 2 homeruns and 5 RBI with a walk and a stolen base in 7 games played.

Seranthony Dominguez (1.0 IP, 2 K) and Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, K) pitched clean seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Felix Bautista (1.0 IP, 2 K) recorded his 8th save of the season and sealed the win for Morton.

Gunnar Henderson (1 for 3, RBI, BB) singled in the first inning, allowing Jackson Holliday (2 for 4, R, RBI) to score the Orioles’ first run. Holliday’s third inning single plated Carlson for the second run of the game.
