Oriole Park at Camden Yards seemed like Wrigley Field with the wind blowing out on Tuesday night. A total of seven homeruns were hit in the game, five by the Orioles, with Baltimore coming out on top by a score of 9-3.
The game started with a leadoff homerun by Chicago’s Christopher Morel. The orioles answered back in their half of the first with back-to-back homeruns by Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, 1 HR, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI) and Trey Mancini (1 for 4, 1 HR, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI). Mullins homerun measured 380 ft. while Mancini’s went 426 ft.
Jorge Mateo (1 for 3, 1 HR, 1 Run Scored, 3 RBI) hit a 400 ft., 3-run homerun in the second inning.
The fifth inning saw the Cubs hit their second homerun and then, not to be outdone, Austin Hays (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI) hit a 464 ft. homerun into the left field Club Level seating area. He became the fourth Baltimore Oriole to hit a ball into the second deck, joining Maikel Franco (2021), Manny Machado (2017) and Mark Reynolds (2011) on that prestiges list.
Ramon Urias (1 for 3, 1 HR, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HBP) was the last to wear the “Homerun Chain” with his 6th inning, 395 ft. homerun.
Manager, Brandon Hyde did his best to put starter Kyle Bradish in line for the win, but Bradish only lasted 4.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits (2 homeruns) with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Bryan Baker (2-3) was the winning pitcher (1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB).
