The O’s Release The Kraken

June 16, 2025 by Orioles Hangout

The Baltimore Orioles 11-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels (33-37) on Sunday accomplished a few things. First and foremost, it is a winning streak. It represents the third series sweep of the season for the Birds. It is the first time since May 14th that the team’s record sits at 10 games below .500. Finally, it is the 15th win for Interim Manager Tony Mansolino, a feat he reached in 27 games (Brandon Hyde managed his 15th win in 39 games).

Five of Baltimore’s runs on this day were a direct result of the Kraken, Gary Sanchez. The bacup catcher, just two days removed from the IL scored from first base on a Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, RBI) bunt single that Angels pitcher Yusei Kikuchi committed a throwing error on.

Sanchez hit a seventh inning grand slam homerun as well to finish the day 2 for 4 with a homerun, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.

The Baltimore offense also reaped the benefits of homeruns by Ramon Urias (2 for 5, 2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) in the first inning and Jordan Westburg (2 for 4, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB) in the eighth.

Every batter in the lineup, with the exception of Luis Vazquez (0 for 4), recorded at least one hit in the game.

Gunnar Henderson (2 for 4, 2B, 2 R) and Coby Mayo (1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB) each doubled as well.

Scott Blewett was the opener on Sunday and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, including a homerun, with 1 strikeout over 2.2 innings.

Cade Povich (2-5) followed and allowed 3 hits, walked 1, struck out 4 and threw a wild pitch over 3.2 scoreless innings. He left the game with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh and saw Seranthony Dominguez (0.2 IP, 2 K) extract him from that situation. In the end, Povich earned the win.

Andrew Kittredge (1.0 IP) and Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, BB, K) closed out the eight and ninth innings, respectively.
