Just like as in a heavyweight prize fight, when one combatant wins a round, the opponent often times gets up and comes out fighting to win the next round. That is exactly what occurred Friday night when the Tampa Bay Rays answered Thursday’s loss with a 3-0 shutout of the Baltimore Orioles.
Despite the best efforts of Kyle Bradish (6-5), the Orioles were stymied by Tampa Bay pitching; Baltimore collected just two hits and two walks while striking out fourteen times in the game. In taking the loss, Bradish pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while surrendering 1 homerun, walking 1, striking out 5 and throwing 2 wild pitches.
Getting hits in the game were Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 3, 1 2B) and Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 4).
Adley Rutschman went 0 for 2 with 2 walks.
Newly acquired relief pitcher Shintaro Fujinami made his Orioles debut and surrendered a homerun to Jose Siri on the first pitch he threw in the orange and black.
