Saturday was Trevor Rogers Day for thos fans of the Baltimore Orioles who celebrate it and it did not disappoint. Just a day remover from Friday’s 15-8 loss, Rogers orchestrated an 11-1 win over the San Francisco Giants (67-69), ending the Orioles five game losing streak.
Rogers recorded two outs in the first inning before Willy Adames touched him for a 381 ft. homerun to left centerfield. He then retired the next five batters he faced before allowing back-to-back singles in the third inning. Getting himself out of that situation with a pair of strike outs, Rogers retired a total of six batters in a row before, once again, allowing back-to-back singles in the fifth inning. Rogers escaped any further damage and then proceeded to retire the Giants in order in both the sixth and seventh innings. Rogers finished the day having thrown 92 pitches (66 K’s) to 26 batters over 7.0 innings and allowed the lone run on five hits with five strikeouts; his record sits at 8-2 with the win.
Interim Manager Tony Mansolino praised his starter’s effort, saying, “Didn’t mess around, didn’t nibble, didn’t try to save runs in a sense of overlooking for a swing and miss. He just attacked the zone, and for me, that’s what frontline guys do.”
Rogers now owns the lowest ERA (1.39) through 14 starts in Orioles’ franchise history.
Mounty stays hot
Ryan Mountcastle followed up his 3 for 5, 4 RBI night on Friday with a 2 for 5 day on Saturday. He hit a two-run homerun to center field in the third inning, his fifth of the season, and doubled in the seventh before scoring on a Dylan Beavers RBI single.
The hits keep coming
Jeremiah Jackson extended his hit streak to ten games with a two-run homerun in the third inning. He also doubled in a pair of runs during Baltimore’s three-run eighth inning. Making a strong case to remain with the Orioles in ’26, Jackson is slashing .326/ .356/ .558 with 4 doubles, 2 homeruns, 10 RBI and a .914 OPS over this span of games.
Checking another box
Samuel Basallo hit his first MLB homerun, a 376 ft.shot to left centerfield, in the 4th inning. Had Giants’ left fielder Heliot Ramos been an inch taller he may have denied Basallo that career milestone with an above the wall catch; Basallo’s blast ticked off the top of Ramos’ glove before landing in the seats. Houston’s Jesus Sanchez robbed Basallo with an over the wall catch earlier this month.
“It was amazing. I’ve been working for that my whole life. It’s like when a dream come true, and you just feel amazing. Like, I don’t have words to explain how I feel right now, but it was good to get the first one. I’ve been hitting the ball well. So it was just, like, you just need time to come, and I just was trying to hit the ball hard every time and thank God I got it today” was the 21 year old’s reaction to his first homerun.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 1 RBI.
Colton Cowser went 1 for 5 (double) and Jackson Holliday went 1 for 3 with a run scored, 1 RBI and a pair of walks.
Newly acquired reliever Shawn Dubin finished what Rogers started, striking out 2, walking 1 and hitting a batter pitching the eighth and ninth innings.
