The Orioles completed the sweep and finished their road trip with a 6-2 record. Not too shabby.
Happy Tuesday, Camden Chatters! And it’s a great Tuesday indeed as the Orioles are coming off of a four-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. They finished their AL East road trip with a record of 6-2 against the Rays and Blue Jays. Not a bad trip at all.
Last night’s contest featured seven strong innings from Corbin Burnes and offensive contributions from James McCann, Ryan O’Hearn, and, of course, Gunnar Henderson. The Orioles are now 43-22 on the season. To check out the lovely totals from last night be sure to read Tyler Young’s game recap.
With the Rays properly taken care of, it’s time to move on to tougher opponents. The Orioles have six more games before they finally get a day off and they are welcoming the NL East to Camden Yards. First up are the Atlanta Braves, who got yesterday off as a travel day between DC and Baltimore. The Braves are in second place in the NL East with a 35-28 record.
After three games with the Braves, the Phillies will arrive in Baltimore for a weekend series. The Phillies have the second-best record in the majors behind only the Yankees. The Saturday and Sunday games have already been announced as sellouts and the Yard will be rocking with many fans of both teams in the stands.
I noticed lately that it has started to feel normal that the Orioles are good. It’s not something I take for granted but I am starting to feel comfortable about it. I still get nervous or frustrated when the Orioles blow it or don’t play their best but I actually feel a bit of confidence which is just wild to me. But then the very fact of having a little bit of confidence has me nervous because what if it all goes wrong?
Being a sports fan is weird.

Birthday and History
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Of all the baseball players who have ever played for the Orioles, no one was born on June 11th. Two old-timey St. Louis were born on this day: Earl Jones and Ernie Nevers. Jones pitched in 10 games in 1945 while Nevers pitched for them from 1926-28.
Also born on this day in history are Dawson’s Creek actor Joshua Jackson (1978), Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage (1969), doctor-turned-TV-swindler Mehmet Oz (1960), and author Robert Munsch (1945), who wrote a book my daughter enjoys titled The Paper Bag Princess.
No big transactions or Orioles news on this day so here are a couple random games in history.
On this day in 2014, the Orioles defeated the Red Sox 6-0. Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven shutout innings followed by an inning apiece from Zack Britton and Darren O’Day. Chris Davis doubled and hit his 10th home run of the year.
In 1995, the Orioles lost to the California Angels by a score of 5-4. Jamie Moyer had a rough go with five runs allowed in just three innings. Kevin Bass homered. Cal Ripken and Rafael Palmeiro had two hits each.
And in 1970, the Orioles also played the Angels. And won, 9-1. Mike Cuellar pitched a complete game one-hitter. The Orioles had just six hits, four of which were home runs by Merv Rettenmund, Frank Robinson, and Boog Powell, and Davey Johnson.
