Tonight is the All-Star game and five Orioles will be there! It’s still cool.
Happy Tuesday, Camden Chatters!
If you tuned into the Home Run Derby last night to see Gunnar Henderson, you probably ended up a little disappointed. The derby isn’t a big deal so the disappointment was fleeting, but it still would have been nice to see Gunnar have a batter showing, His 11 home runs in the first round put him solidly in last place so he did not move on to round two.
Gunnar may not have won the derby, but he did win over a lot of baseball fans watching with his custom Scooby Doo bat and his excellent Scooby Doo impression. This Orioles team is just filled with goofballs.

Regardless of what Gunnar did last night, tonight he will be the starting shortstop for the American League team in the All-Star Game. He’ll be standing on the infield behind his teammate Corbin Burnes, who was named the starting pitcher. And Burnes will throw his pitches to his teammate, Adley Rutschman. It is the first time that an Orioles pitcher and catcher are starting the All-Star Game together.
The first half of the season had a rough ending for the Orioles, but their overall success will be displayed in the midsummer classic. Jordan Westburg and Anthony Santander, on the team as reserves, will hopefully make an impact as well. Let’s all hope they have fun and that nobody gets hurt.
Before the All-Star Game takes place tonight, MLB will wrap up day three of the draft with rounds 11-20. Only the truest draft junkies can possible care about the final day, but I know there are a few of you out there. I hope you enjoy, you can watch on MLB.com at 2 p.m.
If you’re looking for a good draft roundup, we have you covered here at Camden Chat dot com. Mark Brown wrote about the three picks on day one as well as a detailed recap of rounds 3-10, which wrapped up yesterday.

Birthdays and History
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have just one Orioles birthday buddy. Eddie Fisher had a 15-year major league career as a pitcher, mostly in relief. He appeared in 90 games with the Orioles from 1966-67 with a 3.18 ERA. He is celebrating his 88th birthday today!
On this day in 1958, the Orioles split a doubleheader with the Chicago White Sox. They won game two, 6-5. Starter Jack Harshman pitched a complete game and hit two home runs. He knocked in four of the team’s six runs. That’s what we call a Most Birdland Player.
In 1964, Steve Barber walked six batters in nine innings but gave up just one run in a 6-1 win over the Yankees. Barber also homered! It was a two-run shot so he had more RBI than runs allowed. The win vaulted the Orioles over the Yankees in the standings and into first place with a half-game lead.
One year ago today the Orioles won their eighth straight game to pull within one game of the Tampa Bay Rays. Kyle Bradish pitched 7.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and Anthony Santander hit his 17th home run. The Orioles took a 5-0 lead into the ninth inning but Eduard Bazardo nearly blew it. Danny Coulombe came on to end things and got his first save of the year.
