The Orioles lost their seventh game in a row last night and there’s no end in sight to the misery.

It’s never going to get better, is it?
The Orioles suffered their seventh straight loss last night with a frustrating one-run defeat in Milwaukee. The latest suckfest followed the same, sad script as almost every other Orioles loss this year. Their starting pitching put them in a big hole early. Their offense made a mediocre pitcher look great, squandering plenty of scoring opportunities.
And just when it appeared that Cedric Mullins had injected some life into the team with his game-tying, three-run homer in the seventh, the O’s — as they always do — found a way to lose yet again, surrendering the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Stacey recapped the Orioles’ latest fruitless effort, which dropped the club to an unfathomable 15-31.
How much worse is it going to get? I can’t believe it’s already come to this in May, but it’s time to start comparing this year’s club to the four worst Orioles teams of all time: 1988, 2018, 2019, and 2021, all of which finished with at least 107 losses.
Right now the 2025 Orioles are tied for the third-worst start of any of these historically horrific O’s teams. The 1988 Orioles, of course, dug themselves the deepest hole with their 0-21 start, but eventually recovered enough to finish the season with a .335 winning percentage — better than the current Orioles’ .326 mark. If the O’s continue at this pace, they’ll finish the year with a 53-109 record, better only than the 2018 and 2021 teams.
Yeah, it’s not great. And this from a team that was projected by many to be a playoff contender with up to 90+ wins. The sheer depth of this collapse — and how quickly it happened — simply boggles the mind. The Orioles have suffered a lot of painful seasons in recent years, but none were as shocking and massively disappointing as this one is shaping up to be.

Sure, why not? It might as well be audition time for some of the Orioles’ youngsters. The O’s have a lot of holes in next year’s projected rotation and McDermott has a chance to make an early bid for a spot.

On May 20, 2010, the Orioles lost to the Rangers in Arlington, 13-7. The O’s were out of the game almost immediately when starter Brian Matusz gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings, including home runs by a pair of future Orioles, Nelson Cruz and Vladimir Guerrero. Cruz was 4-for-5 in the game, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Another future Oriole, Scott Feldman, got the win despite giving up 12 hits in six innings.
The O’s lost despite collecting 15 hits, including at least one from every batter in the lineup. They went a galling 4-for-20 with runners in scoring position and stranded 15 runners on base. (These guys would have fit right in on the 2025 Orioles.) The O’s fell to 13-29 with the loss, and manager Dave Trembley would last just 12 more games before getting fired.
