The Orioles look to make it three wins in a row.
The last time the Orioles won three games in a row was July 14-20. If that seems like a lot of days, it is because the three-game win streak wrapped around the All-Star break. They won their final game of the first half against the Yankees, then took the first two games against Texas to start the second half.
Since then, they have won two games in a row seven times, including their current streak. Today would be a great time to get that elusive third game. Their opponent is the worst team to play baseball in the modern era, currently on an 11-game losing streak of their own.
The two teams are starting a pair of rookies, both of whom have had their troubles this season. Nick Nastrini has made seven starts for the White Sox, allowing 24 earned runs in 30.2 innings. And Cade Povich has been only slightly better in his 11 starts for the Orioles. His 6.58 ERA and 1.731 WHIP are ugly but maybe will improve tonight. Both pitchers walk a lot of batters. Both give up a lot of home runs. Neither is especially good at striking guys out.
But only one of them pitches for the team that has the most wins in the American League and whose team scored 13 runs just yesterday. Yes, the Orioles have been up and down. But they are a team that should beat the White Sox any day of the week no matter which of their pitchers makes the start. Hopefully, Povich can have a good start and bring that ERA down a little bit while building some confidence.
