What kind of job has Mansolino done as Orioles’ manager? | MAILBAG

July 3, 2025 by Baltimore Baseball

Question: Tony Mansolino has now managed the same number of games as Brandon Hyde did in 2025. What are your impressions of Mansolino the manager? What are the key differences between how he manages and how Hyde managed? From: Kevin Gish

Answer: Kevin, I think that the main difference is that he’s been a bit more consistent with batting orders, particularly at the top than Hyde was. Jackson Holliday has been batting first and Gunnar Henderson is hitting third in almost every game Mansolino has managed.

The difference I notice is off the field. I was very fond of Hyde, personally and professionally, and have always liked Mansolino, but Hyde viewed delivering daily injury updates as drudgery rather than as essential news to the media and fans, and Mansolino has been more willing to perform that task.

Charlie Morton has pitched better under Mansolino, and so has Seranthony Domínguez, but that would have happened no matter who the manager was.

Overall, the players were shocked by Hyde’s dismissal, and it may have inspired them to play better baseball knowing that radical changes are possible, and they’d like to avoid those.

Question: Dylan Beavers is having a strong season at Norfolk. Do you envision him as an elite prospect? Can he play center field? From: Greg Fuchs

Answer: Greg, I saw Beavers play some games during spring training, and I was impressed. He’s played well at Norfolk, and I thought he could be a fine major leaguer. If there are multiple trades of outfielders at the end of this month, you could see him in Baltimore for the last few months of the season.

While he has excellent speed and has played all three outfield positions, I’m thinking he’ll play more right in the majors than anywhere else. He hasn’t even played 10 games in center field this season, and I think the Orioles view Enrique Bradfield Jr. as the more likely center field prospect than Beavers.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style
