If the Baltimore Orioles have any ideations of getting into the AL Wild Card race or getting to a .500 record in July, as Interim Manager Tony Mansolino has told us will give the team a chance, they must string wins together consistently. This win one, lose one, win one, lose one pattern has to stop and it has to stop now. One day removed from a 10 run, 15 hit attack, the Orioles managed just 7 hits in a 10-2 loss to the Texas Rangers (42-44) and Jacob de Grom (9-2).
The Rangers scored three runs in the third inning and never looked back. Adolis Garcia singled in two runs and former Oriole prospect Jonah Heim singled in the third run off of Baltimore starter Brandon Young (0-3). Young would last just one more inning, throwing 71 pitches (43 strikes) and allowing 6 runs with 2 walks and 4 strike outs, before turning things over to the bullpen in the fifth.
Matt Bowman and Gregory Soto were ineffective, throwing gasoline on the fire by allowing 4 runs and 3 runs respectively. Bowman threw a wild pitch and Soto threw three, both hit a batter and Bowman surrendered the first MLB homerun to Alejandro Osuna.
The game saw infielder Luis Vazquez pitching once again.
Scott Blewett was the most efficient Baltimore pitcher, allowing a hit and striking out 1 in 1.1 innings pitched.
The bulk of the Baltimore offense consisted of Gary Sanchez‘s fifth homerun in the fourth inning.
Ramon Urias produced a two hit night with Colton Cowser, Gunnar Henderson, Ryan O’Hearn and Cedric Mullins singling in the contest.
Games like tonight are a buzz kill, especially after an extra-inning thriller like Monday’s game.
