Question: Would the Orioles be likely to tender any of the players eligible for free agency if they are not traded? Cedric Mullins, Zach Eflin and Ryan O’Hearn? From: William R. Bonnington
Answer: William, I’m guessing that Eflin, Mullins and O’Hearn will all be traded this week. There’s still a third of the season left after the trade deadline passes on Thursday, so lots of time to make those decisions.
I would be shocked if O’Hearn is not traded, and surprised if Eflin and Mullins aren’t.
The qualifying offer was $21.05 million last year, and will be higher this fall, and if I’m wrong, I would guess they’d consider it for Eflin and O’Hearn and not for Mullins, but I think you won’t be asking this question on Friday.
Question: I haven’t heard any updates on Albert Suarez’s condition and if he is expected back anytime this season? The Orioles have certainly missed having an effective long man in the bullpen or a spot starter. From: Caryn Green
Answer: Caryn, Albert Suárez is supposed to be throwing to hitters this week, and he should be pitching in rehab games in a few weeks if things go well. He is expected to pitch for the team this season and, yes, he has been missed by the Orioles.
