3 Most Fun Teams That Could Draft Cooper Flagg

March 10, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Cooper Flagg is the consensus No. 1 pick.

All signs are pointing to Cooper Flagg entering the 2025 NBA draft and being the number one overall pick. His combination of size and athleticism has lottery teams drooling over the chance of making him their franchise cornerstone. Flagg can score at multiple levels and defend multiple positions. He is easily the most hyped American prospect we’ve seen in years. Let’s look at the three most fun teams that could win the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.

3 Most Fun Teams That Could Draft Cooper Flagg

Flagg in the Big Easy

Okay, the Pelicans probably don’t deserve to win the Cooper Flagg NBA Draft lottery. They still have a number one overall pick from Duke on their roster in Zion Williamson, and they haven’t had much success with him. The Pelicans weren’t even supposed to be in the tanking business, but that’s what makes them landing Flagg so fun.

The Pelicans lost this season to injuries. It’s as simple as that. Most of their key players have missed significant time, and even though they were expected to make the playoffs, they’ve been at the bottom of the standings most of the season. They now have the fourth-best odds to win the lottery and draft Flagg, and oh how fun that would be. Imagine Flagg, Williamson, and the rest of the Pelicans’ deep roster bouncing back from a season marred by injuries to getting healthy and making a playoff run next year.

Flagg Saves Philly

Another team that wasn’t supposed to be in the lottery is the Philadelphia 76ers. Pairing Joel Embiid with Paul George has turned out to be an utter failure. Embiid hadn’t looked the same all year and will now miss the rest of the season due to injury. The Sixers are in desperate need of a savior.

At the seventh-best odds, they might not be the team to bet on to land Flagg. Right now they owe their draft pick to the Thunder if it falls out of the top-six. Therefore, the Sixers are going to need to rack up some losses quickly if they want a chance at Flagg. Imagine Flagg in a market like Philadelphia. It would be electric. Pair him with Tyrese Maxey and the possibility of a healthy Embiid and George and the Sixers could be very dangerous.

Wizards Find Their Franchise Star

Besides a couple of fun years with John Wall, the Wizards have been one of the worst teams of this century. The Wizards haven’t had a single 50-win since the 70s. Drafting Flagg could finally give them some hope about turning things around. Right now, they are tied for the best shot at landing Flagg, and although the Wizards certainly wouldn’t become contenders by adding Flagg to the roster, their young team has quickly become NBA League Pass favorites among hoop junkies.

Jordan Poole is having a bounce-back year and would be the perfect highlight partner with Flagg. Bilal Coulibaly is becoming an intriguing young player. Rookies Alex Sarr and Bub Carrington are also showing some promise. Ultimately, the Wizards’ young core, led by Flagg could finally save Washington from their decade-long nightmare.
