Bradley Beal Reveals His Main Priority For His NBA Future

March 27, 2022 by The Spun

Bradley Beal at a Team USA Basketball Training Session

Bradley Beal has been one of the most underrated players in the NBA throughout his 10 seasons in Washington. Unfortunately, the Wizards haven’t done much winning the last few years.

After making the playoffs in four of Beal’s first six seasons in D.C., the Wizards are going to miss the postseason for the third time in the last four years. Beal, meanwhile, has not played since undergoing season-ending wrist surgery in February.

The 28-year-old shooting guard was the subject of Ben Simmons trade rumors before getting hurt, and could become a free agent this offseason. There’s legitimate speculation about Beal possibly playing elsewhere.

The three-time All-Star was asked recently about his outlook on his future. While Beal expressed some frustration with the franchise’s inability to land marquee free agents and penchant for being a middling team, he did say that he would prefer winning in Washington.

It’s winning in general that is Beal’s main priority, he said.

“I have to have that understanding with Washington that we are in the pursuit of winning,” Beal said. “That is my destination and goal. The money is awesome. Granted, when we grew up playing, Dray, we played the game to make a lot of money. We played the game to take care of our family. Don’t get it twisted. Like, we all — that is still in the back of our head, that is priority No. 1, taking care of yourself, making sure that you get every dollar that you possibly can make and that you feel comfortable with doing. But that also comes with, when you make that money, you want to win ball games. You want to be able to play for something. Right? I want to play in meaningful games. Right? I want to be playing in late June. That’s what I want.”

This offseason, Beal could pick up his $36.4 million player option for next year, re-sign with the Wizards long-term or sign with a different team.

Prior to getting injured this season, Beal was averaging 23.2 points and 6.6 assists per game.
