Brian Keefe on Alex Sarr: His ability to see and read the game is what stood out to us

August 16, 2024 by Hoops Hype

Sarr struggled with his shooting on the other end of the floor, but Keefe has seen plenty of flashes of his offensive ability and looks forward to exploring what he believes is a very high ceiling as a two-way player. “He’s got the ability to be a three-level scorer at some point. But one thing that has stood out to us is his ability to see the game and read the game. He’s a good passer, so we want the ball in his hands to explore those opportunities for him to make plays for himself and others,” Keefe said of the 7-footer.

More on this storyline

For the rookies in particular, Keefe says the first order of business will be fairly simple: show them how to work like pros. “Establishing habits, No. 1,” Keefe told Monumental Sports Network. “I said the same last year with Bilal, you teach them the professional habits and how to work in this league. It’s the only way you get better is to have consistent work habits and approach to everything you’re doing. That will be our No. 1 focus for those guys.” -via monumentalsportsnetwork.com / August 15, 2024
Who will have the better NBA career: Risacher or Sarr? Zaccharie Risacher, Hawks: 15 votes Alex Sarr, Wizards: 5 Risacher was the resounding favorite here, pulling in 15 of the 20 votes. There’s a good deal of optimism surrounding his trajectory, which contributed to his draft selection at No. 1. Executives are confident in his defensive ability, court feel and room to grow on offense, giving him a higher perceived floor than Sarr, who at this stage, and considering his uneven summer league performance, requires a bit more faith in his long-term projection. -via ESPN / August 1, 2024
Sarr’s biggest areas of concern are his hands and shot profile. His passing gives him potential as a short roller, but he has to catch the ball first; the same goes for his work on the glass, where contested rebounds are a real problem. In both situations, there are too many times when he looks like a backup tight end trying to trap the ball against his pads. -via New York Times / July 23, 2024
