The event isn’t listed publicly on the arena’s website, but it may indicate that Monumental Sports & Entertainment is trying to get goodwill with the 45th and 47th President of the United States.
Capital One Arena will host a Donald Trump victory rally on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025 according to his campaign. The event is not listed on the arena website, but it’s notable. It is also being held the day before Trump returns as the 47th President of the United States the following day. Trump was previously the 45th President.
Dave Lawler of Axios wrote last December that many businesses have donated to Trump’s inauguration, including companies and their CEOs that have been adversarial toward him. It wouldn’t be out of the question that Monumental Sports & Entertainment would also want to show goodwill to President Trump by holding a major event for him and his supporters the night before he takes the oath for a second non-consecutive term.
Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Trump have interacted with each other in the past, most notably in 2018 after the Washington Capitals won the 2017-18 Stanley Cup Finals when the team accepted an invitation to the White House.
