Jordan Poole Sets Wizards Franchise Record

April 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Jordan Poole broke the Wizards three-point record.

Jordan Poole has sketched his name into the Wizard’s history books. He now holds the franchise’s single-season three-point record (228), surpassing Bradley Beal (223). This season may be one of the worst in franchise history, but it may also show the most promise. Poole will now have seven games to add to the record. Let’s further explore Poole’s recent accomplishment.

Jordan Poole Sets Wizards Franchise Record

Breaking the Record

Headed into the game against the Heat, Poole needed just two threes to tie the record and three to break it. Poole broke the record in the first quarter and ended the night with seven threes. He was the lone bright spot on the team in the game. Being one of two players to score at least ten and the only starter to shoot over 40% from the field. He ended the game with a game-high 35 points and added four assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 29 minutes of action.

Adding to the Record

When Poole moved to second for threes just a few weeks ago, it was clear he was on pace to break the record in late March or early April. Now in April and owning the record, how many more threes could Poole hit?

Dissecting his March stats, he hit 3.6 threes a game. With seven games left, staying on average, Poole could end the season with 20-26 more threes. As long as he doesn’t see another minute reduction, which he saw from February to March, Poole could end up hitting 240 threes before the season ends. Let’s look take a deeper dive.

If we were to apply this statistical analysis to the last seven teams Poole will face this season: The Kings, Magic, Celtics, Pacers, 76ers, Bulls, and another matchup with the Heat, that number could increase exponentially. Poole averages 4.26 threes against these seven teams across 14 previous matchups against these teams earlier this season. Looking at these numbers, Poole could end up with 27-30 more threes, which would push his total to 251.

These are all hypothetical numbers, as averages do not factor in if Poole has a stellar game or an off-night. However, if Poole plays to the standard he has showcased throughout the season, we could see a total from him in the 240-255 range by the end of the season.

Records Breaking All Season

This season has had its ups and downs certainly, however, the franchise is headed in the right direction if breaking franchise records is any indication. Poole isn’t the only one to break a record or two this season on the team.

Kyshawn George broke Beal’s record for the fastest Wizards player to 100 threes. Bub Carrington now holds the record for the most threes by a rookie in franchise history. Alex Sarr is the youngest player in franchise history to score 30+ points in a game. These are just a few of the notable records, however, there are a few more that have been broken or are in the process of being set.

The Last Word

Poole has had an impressive season, oftentimes being the only consistent player out there for the Wizards. This record solidifies his impact on the team this season, and what could be seasons to come. Poole will continue to add to the record in April, and we could potentially see hit some impressive marks not hit by many. Even if Poole hits zero threes the rest of the season, he is the sole owner of the record, and that’s something to hang your hat on.
