The former Washington Wizards center is part of the Boston Celtics’ 2023-24 NBA championship team
Congratulations to the Boston Celtics, who won the 2024 NBA Finals, 4 games to 1 against the Dallas Mavericks last night. This is Boston’s 18th championship, more than any other team in the league. In addition, this championship is their first since the 2007-08 season, led by Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and longtime franchise player Paul Pierce.
Pierce also shares a connection with one of the current Celtics championship team’s players: Both he and Kristaps Porzingis also played for the Washington Wizards.
For Pierce, he only played for Washington in the 2014-15 season, but played a key role in helping the Wizards get to the second round of the playoffs that season. But The Truth isn’t the focus of this piece.
Porzingis played one and a half seasons to get his career back on track, averaging 22.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 82 total appearances. This past season, he averaged 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Celtics and 12.3 points per game in the playoffs. Porzingis’ numbers were down in large part because he missed much of the postseason due to injury.
Either way, I’m happy for Porzingis. And I’m also happy for former Wizards center Daniel Gafford, who averaged 8 points per game in the NBA Finals for the Mavericks.
Congratulations to KP for winning an NBA championship with his new team.
