There are no games scheduled at Capital One Arena as the first major phase of a renovation gets underway. In addition, the Mystics will be playing in Baltimore for the first time in franchise history.
On Thursday, the Washington Mystics announced that two games will be relocated to EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. and two games will be relocated to CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Md. The games are being moved here from their regular home, CareFirst Arena, formerly the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington.
This is part of the four regular season games that the Mystics can move from CareFirst Arena as part of Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s renewed agreement with the D.C. Government. The relocated games would normally be at Capital One Arena. However, they are being moved due to major renovations as part of a restoration project.
These are the games that will be moved:
- May 28 vs. Indiana Fever at CFG Bank Arena (tipoff at 7:30 p.m. ET)
- July 8 vs. Chicago Sky at EagleBank Arena (tipoff at 11:30 a.m. ET)
- July 10 vs. Las Vegas Aces at EagleBank Arena (tipoff at 7:30 p.m. ET)
- Sept. 7 vs. Indiana Fever at CFG Bank Arena (tipoff at 3 p.m. ET)
The Mystics have played at EagleBank Arena before, during the WNBA Playoffs, specifically in the 2018 WNBA Finals when they played against the Seattle Storm. The addition of CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore is notable, however, because the Mystics’ May 28 game against Indiana will be the first time the Mystics have hosted a game in Baltimore.
In a press release, Mystics Chief Business Officer Alycen McAuley said the following:
Fans of the Mystics live across the DMV and beyond, and we’re excited to bring the incredible experience of the WNBA closer to home for fans living near Baltimore and Northern Virginia. As our game continues to experience tremendous growth, we’re thankful we have this opportunity to allow even more fans to come see the Mystics in person.”
Unsurprisingly, the Mystics will be hosting the Fever at a bigger venue. However, it is mildly surprising that the Mystics are hosting the Aces at EagleBank instead of some other teams like the defending champion New York Liberty, the Los Angeles Sparks, who just signed star point guard Kelsey Plum or the Dallas Wings, who have the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
