Monumental Sports really wants that FEVER money!
On Thursday, the Washington Mystics announced that their game against the Indiana Fever on June 7 will be played at Capital One Arena instead of the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Congress Heights. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ION (WPXW-TV in the DMV).
Though Monumental Sports won’t say it out loud, I will. The first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Fever guard Caitlin Clark will play for the first time in D.C. as a pro this year. I’d expect the crowd to be made up of mostly Clark and Iowa Hawkeyes fans when the Mystics play against them, even though Washington isn’t that far removed from winning the 2019 WNBA championship.
As I’ve been saying since the Washington Wizards and Capitals thought about moving to Alexandria, the Mystics need a bigger home for the longer term. Games like these are why. And these kind of moves are why they are the losers in the D.C. arena deal among Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s teams. Sure, the Mystics have this one game at Cap One, but don’t they deserve a bigger home for all of their games?
Anyway, the Mystics gave more details on how sales for this game will work:
- Anyone with a ticket to the original game at ESA will be issued a Capital One Arena game ticket in a similar location. So if someone wanted courtside seats at ESA, that person’s getting courtside seats at Cap One.
- General ticket sales will be on April 23 at 10 a.m. ET. I’d imagine that season ticket holders will get to buy additional tickets before this date.
