The guard from Pittsburgh hails from Baltimore. He won’t be in a Portland uniform for very long per reports.
The Portland Trail Blazers selected guard Carlton “Bub” Carrington to close out the lottery during the 2024 NBA Draft. Based on the reports of a trade centered around Deni Avdija and the No. 14 pick earlier today, Carrington will likely be headed to the Washington Wizards.
Carrington is a 6’4” guard with a 6’8” wingspan who was a certified bucket-getter during his freshman year at Pittsburgh. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists across 33 games as the second option behind senior guard Blake Hinson.
Carrington is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft class. He doesn’t turn 19 until July. But he already has a pretty sophisticated scoring arsenal off the bounce. Carrington is as shifty as it gets as a scorer with a tight handle and good play-making instincts.

Carrington isn’t very comfortable attacking the rim just yet. His 195-pound frame might have something to do with that. He also has an inconsistent outside shot, converting on just 32.2% of his three-point tries on 6.1 attempts in his lone season. But the 18-year-old has the tools to become a productive scorer in the right situation.
Hopefully, Carrington develops into that lethal scorer the Wizards need — especially to make Deni’s departure hurt a little bit less.
