NBA Emirates Cup 2024: Wizards placed in Group East C

Washington will play the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks in their group for the Emirates Cup.

On Friday, the NBA did its group draw for the 2024 NBA Emirates Cup. The Washington Wizards were selected to be in East Group C.

Who is in the Wizards’ group?

East Group C were made up of the following teams:

  1. Boston Celtics
  2. Cleveland Cavaliers
  3. Chicago Bulls
  4. Atlanta Hawks
  5. Washington Wizards

Each of the 15 teams in each conference are placed in five different pools before being placed into one of three groups. Given that the Wizards were one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, they were in Pool 5 along with the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons who are in East A and East B, respectively.

When is the NBA Emirates Cup?

Games across the league will be played on four Tuesdays (Nov. 12, 19 and 26 and Dec. 3) and three Fridays (Nov. 15, 22 and 29). The quarterfinals are on Dec. 10 and 11 at team . The semifinals and championship are on Dec. 14 and 17, respectively, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

All games except the final will count in the regular season standings. The remaining games will not.

What if a team doesn’t make quarterfinals?

All 22 teams that don’t make the quarterfinals will play two regular season games from Dec. 12-13, 15-16. The opponents are to be determined for all teams in this situation.

Is this a new thing?

No. The NBA Emirates Cup has its naming rights after the Emirati airline made a partnership with the league last February. The Los Angeles Lakers are the defending champions of the cup, which was called the NBA In-Season Tournament in the 2023-24 season.
