Jerome Guery was the male flag bearer.
On Wednesday, the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (BOIC) named their flagbearers for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympics. And Washington Mystics fans should feel happy about this one!
Fenerbahçe and former Mystics forward Emma Meesseman was named Belgium’s female flag bearer. As the Cats’ biggest superstar and as one of the world’s superstar basketball players, this is definitely a well-deserved honor.

Meesseman was flattered by the news as well.

As a Mystics player, Meesseman played from 2013-20 after being drafted No. 19 overall in 2013. She was named to the 2015 WNBA All-Star team as a Mystics player and the 2022 All-Star team when she played for the Chicago Sky that year.
And of course, Meesseman was one of the key players behind the Mystics’ 2019 championship team, winning Finals MVP that year.
The BOIC announced that Jerome Guery will be the male flag bearer for the opening ceremony, where he will a walk alongside her. He won the bronze medal in team jumping equestrian competition in the 2020 Olympics with Pieter Devos and Gregory Wathelet.
The 2020 Olympic Opening Ceremony will be on Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. CET) in Paris.
