What to watch for
Connecticut enters the contest a perfect 8-0 behind their superstars DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas. The duo have paved the way for the Sun’s historic start, the best in team history. The two sides faced off in the second game of their seasons, with Connecticut pulling away with a dominant fourth quarter en route to an 84-77 victory over the Mystics back on May 17.
As for Washington, they’ve been more competitive than their record indicates. But either way, they haven’t been able to get over the hump, falling apart down the stretch and making crucial errors that can’t be made against their competition. That may explain why fans gave Thibault a failing grade for his coaching last week.
The Mystics will likely rely on talented guard Ariel Atkins, who leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game and Julie Vanloo, their leading assister. If Washington can win the battle down low through the likes of rookie forward Aaliyah Edwards and Stefanie Dolson, they’ll have a real shot at securing their first win of the season.
