Pregame notes
The Washington Mystics and the Indiana Fever are among the teams with the very worst record in the WNBA. The Mystics just made a dent in that by stringing together their first two wins of the season. The Fever are so hyped-up that they play in the same big stadium as the Indiana Pacers, and their games are basically sold out. So this won’t be a regular away game. Moreover, even though the Fever is playing the lowly Mystics the game will be on national TV, on NBA TV. So expect the players to show up and try to bring that third consecutive win. In the mean time, Edwards is making a name for herself as one of the best rookies in the WNBA. In other news, Sykes returned from injury during that win streak, only to re-injure herself, and is now out for several weeks, complicating things for Washington. Ariel Atkins on the other hand is healthy now, and just dropped 29 (!) on the Chicago Sky on Friday. So things could get interesting. The Fever are 4-10 so a win here for the Mystics would definitely get them closer to that penultimate spot.
The two teams actually played less than two weeks ago, and the Fever won that game in nail-biter 83-85. Did I say it will be interesting? Here are the highlights from that game:
