Pregame notes
The WNBA is definitely going through a transformation. The last time the Mystics played the Sparks it was not in Los Angeles. Rather it was in the quite humble Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. Well, this time the Sparks are hosting in the Lakers arena in Los Angeles. And this is not even a nationally televised game. (It’s true that the last time the game was in Long Beach also because of the renovations to the Los Angeles arena.)
The Mystics’ season hasn’t quite started on the right foot, with two losses in the preseason and then 12 consecutive losses in the season. The bright spot is that since then the Mystics have been playing pretty well and have supported the 4-3 record. Altogether, they are now 4-15.
They have lost their last two games though to superior teams (Las Vegas and Connecticut). Against the Sparks they have a chance to go back to winning. However they will be busy as usual all three of their key players. On the bright side, the Los Angeles team is also missing a bunch of players. This could be quite competitive and interesting especially if you’re not watching the Copa America and are not deterred by the late start.
Let’s see how the Mystics bounce back in this Tuesday evening game.
