What to watch for
- The Mystics are coming off yet another heartbreaking loss. Caitlin Clark sunk Washington’s hopes by sinking seven threes and putting up 30 points in Capital One Arena. The Fever held off a late surge by the Mystics to win by two. Washington’s offense put up their best offensive rating of the season (103.6), but their defense failed them again. The Fever logged their best effective field goal percentage of the season (58.1%). Stef Dolson led the team with 19 points and had her most productive offensive game in her second stint with the franchise.
- Washington should not feel hopeless coming into this matchup with New York. The Mystics held 4th quarter leads in each of the last two meetings. Granted, Shakira Austin played in both of those games. But the Liberty finished off a huge win the formerly-unbeaten Connecticut Sun less than 24 hours before tip-off. Fatigue, and possibly some stars resting, should give the Mystics at least some sort of boost.
- The Mystics are off to one of the worst starts in WNBA history after their 11th-consecutive loss. Only the 2008 Atlanta Dream (0-17), the 2017 San Antonio Stars (0-14), and the 2002 Detroit Shock (0-13) have started a season with more losses. The Stars and the Shock would both go on to replace their head coaches with Bill Laimbeer. The ‘08 Dream got a pass for being an expansion franchise.
