What to watch for
The Wiz play host to the Pelicans on Wednesday — the team’s first matchup against a Western Conference foe in exactly a dozen games. Perhaps the shift in opponent can help spark a lackluster Washington side that’s struggled to keep games competitive of late.
The Wizards return home after a 2-game road trip wherein the team lost by an average margin of 32 points per contest.
The challenge to tack on another win won’t come easy against the Pels. The visitors are fresh off a resounding 14-point win over the top-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.
Pelicans star Zion Williamson might have heard all the negative buzz about his weight during the NBA In-Season Tournament. After getting thrashed by the Lakers by 44 points in the In-Season semis, Williamson pounded the T-wolves for a season-high 36 points.
The game will probably be worth tuning into just to watch the Wiz try to contain the hefty lefty Duke alum. With Daniel Gafford’s status for the contest uncertain due to his hop injury, interior defense could be an issue against Zion.
