What to watch for
The Wizards are coming off their first loss of the summer in their Sunday showdown opposite the Houston Rockets. The 1-1 Wiz have a chance to get back over .500 against the Blazers.
Justin Champagnie led the way for Washington last game with 19 points and seven rebounds. Bub Carrington wasn’t far behind with his 18 points to go along with five assists. Carrington and Kyshawn George combined to drain seven of the Wizards’ ten triples against Houston.
But the matchup to watch on Tuesday will be the one in the paint between Alex Sarr and Donovan Clingan — the first two centers taken in the 2024 NBA Draft.
In two games, Sarr has averaged 10.0 points on just 30.8% shooting from the field. Despite his shot not falling, the Frenchman has been actively protecting the rim with six total blocks.
Clingan had a similar performance in his SL debut. The UConn alum scored four points and missed seven of his eight shots but did have five swats in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
