Washington had eight players score double figures in the victory
The Washington Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets 113-100 on Saturday, improving to 11-48 on the season. The win marked the Wizards’ first regular season series sweep since the 2022-23 season.
The opening frame started as the last few have for Washington. The 3-ball wasn’t falling and turnovers mounted, shooting just 22% from deep with seven turnovers in the first quarter. Charlotte took a slim 25-24 lead into the second quarter behind a fast start from Miles Bridges.
The sides stayed connected throughout the second frame before Charlotte embarked on a run to close the half ahead, 59-54. Bilal Coulibaly paced the Wizards with eight points. He finished the game with 17 points on 6-18 shooting.
Washington blitzed Charlotte to begin the second half and never looked back. A late 15-5 run highlighted a dominant quarter from Brian Keefe’s squad, which typically struggles after halftime. The Wizards won the quarter 30-16 and took a nine-point lead into the final frame.
Richaun Holmes continued his interior dominance, fighting for offensive rebounds and put-backs to maintain Washington’s lead. Holmes finished with 15 points and nine rebounds on 5-6 FG. He’s now made 20 of his last 21 field goal attempts, showcasing his efficient offense.
Washington’s bench outscored Charlotte’s second unit 50-13 as the Wizards exited Charlotte with a decisive road victory.
