Wizards are on a two-game winning streak
Fresh off a 105-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the 7-41 Washington Wizards traveled to Charlotte to take on the Hornets. Lamelo Ball and Brandon Miller didn’t play for Charlotte, and Alex Sarr missed his fourth consecutive game for Washington.
The Wizards defeated the Hornets, 124-114.
The opening frame started with a bang for Washington as Kyle Kuzma dropped 13 points on an efficient 5-9 shooting. The Wizards drilled a pair of last-second free throws to take a 31-29 advantage into the second quarter.
Kuzma sat to begin the second frame as Corey Kispert came off the bench to drop 21 first-half points on 5-7 shooting from 3-point range. Bilal Coulibaly poured in 18 points, which marked a career-high for points in a half, as the Wizards dropped a season-high 77 first-half points to take a 23-point lead into the break.
Charlotte blitzed the Wizards with a 9-0 run out of halftime behind a slew of Wizards turnovers and missed shots. A flurry of Hornets threes cut into their deficit to trail by just nine points entering the final frame.
Malcolm Brogdon brought a calming presence to the Wizards en route to 16 points and multiple clutch free throws as the Wizards began to pull away. Behind a season-high 25 points from Kispert and 26 points from Coulibaly, Washington stormed into Charlotte and earned a comfortable 124-114 win.
Washington is now 8-41 on the season.
