Washington looked outmatched from the jump and was dominated by Dallas
The Washington Wizards lost to the Dallas Mavericks, 130-108, on Monday. The lopsided defeat marked the team’s 14th straight loss and 39th of the season, dropping its record to 6-39.
Despite missing six rotation players, including star Luka Donćic, Dallas wasted no time growing an early advantage. Four minutes into the contest, the Mavs opened a 13-2 lead, and four minutes later, blossomed their lead to 25-8. Klay Thompson drilled seven 3-pointers on 10 attempts in the opening frame, outscoring the Wizards by himself.
By the 10:20 mark of the second quarter, Dallas’ lead expanded to 29 as former Wizards big man Daniel Gafford throttled Washington in the paint. Gafford finished with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Washington trailed by 30 at halftime, with no real answers to Dallas’ outside shooting.
The Wizards won the third quarter, 33-28, but just a five-point difference didn’t mean much, as the team still trailed by 25 entering the final frame.
Washington sat its starters and allowed its end-of-the-bench players to get some run. Tristan Vukcevic scored 10 points, but it didn’t mean much as the Wizards were dominated in Dallas, 130-108.
Bilal Coulibaly led the team with 16 points on 6-15 FG. Jordan Poole added 15 points on 3-9 3pt. Kyshawn George was a team-worst -35 and shot a poorus 1-6.
After scoring a season-high 30 points against Phoenix last Saturday, Kyle Kuzma struggled in Dallas, scoring just seven points on 3-11 FG en route to a -31 plus/minus.
