The Numbers Crunch: Breaking down the Wizards’ win over the Hornets

Stats. Analysis. Commentary. On the Wizards’ win. By someone other than Kevin Broom today.

The Washington Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets yesterday, 123-114 at home. Kevin Broom is out for the day, so I’ll do my best to share with you the numbers and thoughts from last night’s game.

The Good

  • Washington dominated in effective field goal percentage, 59.6 percent to 44.3 percent
  • Corey Kispert scored eight quick points to end the third quarter to give Washington a slim one point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Without that run, I’m not sure Washington would have had the same momentum that they did.
  • 17-of-42 from the three point line.
  • Jordan Poole and Alex Sarr shot 100 percent from the field in the fourth quarter.
  • LaMelo Ball scored 34 points and took 32 shots to get there. In other words, he wasn’t efficient.

The bad

We don’t have anything really ugly today. After all, the Wizards won. But here are some things that Washington nees to brush up on.

  • Offensive Rebounding: The Hornets led the percentage rate in the four factors. They also had 15 of their 22 offensive rebounds in the first half.

Turnovers: Washington had 18 of them while Charlotte had 8. The Wizards had 12 of those turnovers in the second half. Thankfully, that didn’t affect them in this game.

We’ll see how the Wizards do this Saturday on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks.
