Pregame notes
Hali-less Pacers – Tyrese Haliburton, one of the breakout stars of the NBA season, suffered a gruesome-looking injury in the Pacers’ Monday contest against the Celtics. Indiana will have a tough time replacing the 1-time All-Star’s 23.6 points and NBA-leading 12.5 assists. They managed to overcome Haliburton’s absence to beat the Celtics. However, the Pacers are 8-21 in games their star point guard has missed over the last two seasons.
Losing Streak Symmetry – The Wizards are currently on a 5-game losing streak. Their 6 wins this season have been sandwiched by losing streaks spanning 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 games. This is irrefutable evidence that a win is coming on Wednesday to complete the set. Of course, the Wizards also lost 9 games in a row in November, so that means … I’ll see myself out.
Season-opener re-do – These two teams faced off in the same venue to open the season back on Nov. 25. The Wizards actually played a decent first half to open their campaign, leading 68-63 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse after 2 quarters. A second-half collapse, however, resulted in a 143-120 loss in Indy to start the 2023-24 campaign. But with no Haliburton this time around, Washington has a much better shot at revenge on the road.
