Wizards Rookie Trio Making History

March 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Wizards became the first team in NBA history with three rookies to make 80-plus threes.

Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, and Alex Sarr make history in each game. The Wizards rookie trio is the first in NBA history to hit 80 three-pointers in a single season. Carrington at 107, George at 104, and Sarr at 80, they’ve been showing the defense the possibilities this Washington team could have in years to come. At the end of the season, what could the record be?

Wizards Rookie Trio Making History

With the Wizards season just under a month from being finished, the entire squad is determined to go out on a high note. Carrington, George, and Sarr have been a huge part of their recent success and have helped lead the team to the best ten-game stretch of the season. While the record isn’t something to hang your hat on, it’s certainly a possible nod to the future.

As of now, the Wizards’ rookie trio have all hit at least 80 threes this season. While Carrington and George hit their 80 three-pointers made a little earlier in the season, Sarr hit his 80th during his career night against Denver. This is a monumental feat for the three rookies. It shows that as bad as the season has been, the team still has a bright future if their young talent can utilize their potential.

All three guys combine for a 32.9 three-point percentage. It’s clear to see that there is even room for improvement. Their combined average for March is at 35.6% from three, which shows they’ve already begun taking smarter shots and becoming more consistent at knocking the three ball down.

Possibility of 100 Threes Each

As mentioned earlier, Carrington and George both have hit 100 threes already this season. Carrington hit the mark earlier in the month against the Raptors. George broke the record for the fastest Wizards rookie to hit his 100th three, which happened against Detroit not too long after. However, Sarr would need to hit 20 more threes in the team’s last 16 games to hit the 100 mark. Sarr would need to average 1.25 threes a game to hit the mark by the end of the season. With him averaging 1.6 a game currently, it’s certainly a possibility, barring an injury. It would be an amazing accomplishment for the young trio to hit this milestone moving into the offseason.

This record is the first of its kind. The Wizards’ had a unique situation where all three of their rookies could be inserted into the starting lineup. Considering most teams don’t have access to three first-round draft picks in a season, we may never see this record be broken.

The Last Word

The trio have certainly made an impact on the roster this season. Carrington, George, and Sarr, while not shooting the best, have indicated they are willing to take the shots that are given to them. As the season has progressed, they all improved, and their stats reflect that. With the offseason coming up, it will be a time to grow their offensive abilities. Looking into next season, they should become more consistent and they could help push the team into the playoffs.
