Wizards waive Richaun Holmes

July 15, 2025 by Bullets Forever

Holmes had just $250k guaranteed for 2025-26

The Washington Wizards have requested waivers on veteran center Richaun Holmes, according to Washington’s public relations account on X, as well as Hoops Hype’s Mike Scotto.

Holmes, 31, provided solid minutes off the bench for the Wizards last season, averaging 7.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in 31 games.

Holmes’ contract only had $250k guaranteed for the 2025-26 season, which made him a possible waive candidate considering Washington’s crowded roster.

Washington signed veteran center Marvin Bagley III to a one-year deal and retained third-year forward Tristan Vukcevic on a two-way deal last Thursday, bolstering the team’s front-court depth. It appears Holmes was the odd-man out, with Washington allowing the 6-foot-9 veteran to hit free agency.

The Wizards now roster 17 standard contracts and three two-way contracts. They must get down to 15 standard contracts by opening night, which means more transactions are necessary before the season begins.

Listed below is Washington’s updated roster:

Guards: Bub Carrington, CJ McCollum, Tre Johnson, Marcus Smart, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley

Wings: Khris Middleton, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Justin Champagnie, Corey Kispert, Will Riley, Cam Whitmore, Dillon Jones

Forwards: Alex Sarr, Marvin Bagley III

Two-way: Tristan Vukcevic, Jamir Watkins, Jaylen Martin

Washington’s frontcourt depth is still relatively slim compared to its plethora of options at the guard and wing positions. The Wizards appear comfortable entering the 2025-26 season with Alex Sarr as their starting center, with Bagley III serving as Sarr’s primary backup.

While Vukcevic could serve as Washington’s third center, the 7-footer is on a two-way deal, which caps his time on the active roster at 50 games.
