The Hershey Bears Hunter Shepard has received the American Hockey League’s “Goalie of the Month” for November 2022. Shepard has had an outstanding career and month in Hershey, making this honor well deserved. Shepard started the month with a perfect record of (6-0-0), been featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 for a beautiful diving save, logged 30 saves in a single game, recorded a save percentage of roughly 0.936, and the list goes on. Shepard has only started 8 games for the Bears and 6 of those starts were wins, he has also been able to keep his goals against average around 1.83.
Shepard won back to back NCAA Championships with the University of Minn-Duluth Bulldogs in 2018 and 2019, then signed an AHL contract with Hershey in 2020 after going undrafted. The Washington Capitals signed Shepard to a 2 year, $1.5 million contract with a $750,000 AAV in July of 2021, Shepard’s contract with the Caps is up at the end of this year making him an unrestricted free agent. The Bears have not had a goalie earn this honor since Braden Holtby back in December of 2012 who then went on to win the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018. The Bears have also not had a member of their squad win a monthly award since Riley Barber won the AHL’s player of the month award in 2019, Barber has since jumped around from Washington, Montreal, Detroit, and Dallas.
