The Washington Capitals are looking to rebound from an overtime loss to the Montreal Canadians earlier in the week. The Capitals are off to a horrendously slow start, having only won one game this season so far. Alex Ovechkin has been held scoreless through the first few games. The team who looked to revamp the power play this off season and has still yet to score a goal with the man advantage. They have also given up five goals while being a man down.
The Capitals have a whopping 1.25 goals for average compared to the 3.75 goals given up per game. They also only record 24.8 shots per game. This is not the typical Caps team of old that would score goals a plenty during games and also keep the opposing goaltender on their toes by putting the puck on net in bunches. The team has also been taking a lot of unnecessary penalties and through four games, have already had 54 penalty minutes with Tom Wilson having a total of 20 penalty minutes.
The Capitals did make a roster move and call up goalie Hunter Shephard from Hershey because backup Charlie Lindgren on injured reserve. The previous backup goaltender who got sent back to Hershey, Clay Stevenson who has never played in an NHL game before. Hunter Shephard is going to get the start Wednesday against New Jersey.
