OK, opening night jitters are now all done and dusted.

We all got a chance to finally see this brand new team of transfers that Patrick Ewing and Co. have assembled and as it turns out, they are all pretty good individually. Akok Akok seemed the most complete player on both sides of the ball. Brandon Murray had the look of a star at times. Primo Spears took over when it got to crunch time and Bryson Mozone had – if it’s possible – a quiet 20 points. (I’m not including Qudus Wahab here because, hey, we already kinda knew what to expect.)

Next step is to see them put it all together a bit earlier -especially on the defensive end and in transition – as the Capital One faithful don’t need another edge of their seat experience against a 300+ KenPom opponent well before Thanksgiving.

What to Look For:

1 – Jay Heath and/or Dante Harris being in uniform. Neither seems likely to appear any time soon, especially before the second semester begins but because we don’t have a definite answer this is the first thing to look for when scanning the court pre game.

2 – Can Wahab stay out of foul trouble? The Hoyas big man struggled to stay on the court in his return. Still he was efficient when he wasn’t sitting on the bench as the starting big man finished with his 10th career double-double in 15 minutes.

3 – Limiting 3s. In today’s college basketball you simply can’t let your opponent get off 20 more 3s which is exactly how Coppin State forced an extra five minutes on Tuesday.

It will be good if…..

Ewing can actually use his bench against what looks to be the worst team on the schedule. Jordan Riley did well when called on out of necessity. And we only got a combined four minutes from Ryan Mutombo and Denver Anglin. If not against Green Bay then when will we see them? The bench has to more than just Wayne Bristol Jr.

It will be bad if…..

Georgetown wins by less than 15. As I just said, this is the biggest mismatch on the schedule. In his two years at the helm at Green Bay, Will Ryan – son of Bo – is 0-6 against Power 6 competition and none of those contests have been all that competitive for very long. The closest margin was a 14 point L at Marquette two years ago. Three of the losses have been by at least 30. This is a Homecoming type opponent.

Did you know?

Last season eight Division 1 schools finished with 25 losses. Georgetown and Green Bay were two of them.

Did you also know….this is technically part of the Jamaican Classic? Well, it is.
