While many schools across the country have chosen to get out and hit the road in the leadup to Thanksgiving, Georgetown is doubling down on time spent at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas are hosting a Multi Team Event against two familiar foes this weekend starting with The Mount on Saturday and ending with American on Sunday.
The Mountaineers will be making the short trip out of Maryland for the first time this season after losing their opener at Maryland and then defeating Coppin State at home. The 68-53 loss at Maryland isn’t aging well as the Terps all of a sudden find themselves at 1-3 and struggled to crack 40 last night at Villanova.
Dan Engelstad is in 6th season coaching Mount St. Mary’s, making one NCAA Tournament in 2021. Through two games, 10 Mountaineers are averaging 10 or more minutes per game. Dakota Leffew and Joshua Reaves both score in double figures for a squad that has yet to really find their mark from 3-point land, shooting 28%. KenPom has this squad finishing 10-10 in the MAAC.

Georgetown last hosted The Mount to open the 2020 season and it was an absolute firecracker of a game that had a little bit of everything. The Hoyas trailed by 19 just a few minutes in the second half before storming all the way back to win by 13. James Akinjo, Omer Yurtseven and Mac McClung combined for a season-high 56 points in their unfortunately short time together while Josh LeBlanc was a surprise DNP. This game basically gave us everything right out of the gate.

Georgetown is trying to snap a two game losing streak on Saturday and avoid the schools’ first three-game non-conf losing streak in a season since dropping three straight in Nov. 1999. After defeating Memphis, Craig Eshericks’ group lost their final two games in Maui to eventual Final Four participants North Carolina and Florida. Those Hoyas then dropped a game at UNLV before returning home.
