The last week of non-conference play for the Hoyas starts tonight with Siena coming to Chinatown for the second year in a row after the two schools hadn’t met since 1974. Georgetown finished the non-conference at 6-5 last season and would need to win both of their remaining games to equal that mark heading into Big East play when Xavier comes to DC on Dec. 16.

CATCHING UP WITH SIENA

The Saints are coming in on a two-game winning streak under Carm Maciariello, who is in his fourth year. Siena has already scored two Power 6 wins this season in beating Florida Sate and Seton Hall. Georgetown has just one Power 6 win since winning the 2021 Big East Tournament and none this season. Sophomore Javian McCollum leads the Saints in scoring at 18ppg. Sixth-year guard Andrew Platek, who played four years at UNC and is now in his second season with Siena – what a weird thing to write, averages 10pp and hits 50% of his 3s.

“These guys think they can beat any team,” a smiling Maciariello said Monday. “So I mean, I don’t want us to be overconfident, [but] I think we’ll have the mindset that we’re going [to Georgetown] to win a road game, just like we do any time we go on the road.”

GEORGETOWN UPDATE

Well not a lot is going well here. Dante Harris transfer portal stuff has been confirmed and the Hoyas free ticket promotion that was decided upon before the season is being universally mocked from afar.

Georgetown Basketball Hit Its Lowest Point And Is The Saddest Story In All Of Sports https://t.co/P0liF7MhW8

— Bobby Reagan (@BarstoolReags) December 6, 2022

Georgetown players since 2017 that have left the Hoyas program during the season or just before the season

2017 – Chris Sodom
2018 – Antwan Walker
2019 – James Akinjo, Josh LeBlanc, Myron Gardner, Galen Alexander
2020 – Jalen Harris
2021 – Tre King
2022 – Dante Harris

— Bobby Bancroft (@BobbyBancroft) December 7, 2022

As far as actual basketball stuff goes, Patrick Ewing is still playing his starters entirely too many minutes and it’s showing in their second half collapses. Georgetown has lost four games when leading at the half with three of those leads having been double-digits.

TRAP GAME?

It’s hard to call any game a trap game these days for Georgetown but there is a bigger contest lurking right around the corner for the Hoyas. Syracuse won last night to get above .500 and a Hoyas win tonight against the Saints would ensure that they don’t have a losing record when the two meet on ABC on Saturday afternoon. Syracuse is already getting ready for the game on social media.
