Georgetown guard Mac McClung is entering the 2020 NBA Draft, but will maintain his college eligibility should he choose to return to school, he announced this afternoon.
The 6-foot-2 McClung played in 21 games (20 starts) this season for the Hoyas, missing considerable time down the stretch due to injury. He led the team in scoring with a 15.7 points per game average while grabbing 3.1 rebounds and dishing out 2.4 assists per game.
A bouncy, athletic guard, McClung made the All-Big East Freshmen Team in 2018-19. The Gate City, Va. native is known for his high-flying dunks and scoring outbursts.
However, McClung has struggled shooting the ball with consistency in his two collegiate seasons. He’s a career 39.3 percent shooter and has converted just 29.5 percent from three-point range.
“To the Georgetown faithful, thank you for giving me a new home!” McClung wrote on Twitter. “With that being said, I have decided to enter the 2020 NBA Draft while maintaining my eligibility. Thank you for all your support and Go Hoyas!”
Considering the uncertainty surrounding the draft process this year, it seems likely that McClung will be back at Georgetown next season. He doesn’t appear ready for the professional ranks, and will likely not have the customary amount of chances to meet with and workout for teams in the coming weeks and months.
It can’t hurt for him to receive feedback and use it to his benefit though.
