Securing the NLI from the talented guard is terrific. Perhaps even more important is that GUHoyas issued a press release about Allen:

Men’s Basketball 11/9/2022 4:15:00 PM – Hoyas Ink Marvel Allen

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s basketball team has announced the signing of Marvel Allen to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Allen, considered a five-star recruit by most outlets, is a product of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. He is the first from the Class of 2023 to sign with the Blue & Gray.

ON THE RECORD

“We are very excited to sign Marvel Allen and see him in a Hoya uniform next season. As we work to move this program forward, Marvel is exactly the kind of player who adds to the style of play we are looking for. He is a two-way player who is physical and tremendous both offensively and defensively and he adds size and physicality to the backcourt”

– Head Coach Patrick Ewing on Marvel Allen

“Georgetown believed in me and the relationship with the coaching staff was the main reason I chose Georgetown. I only have one plan and that’s to prove to the world what Georgetown is about.” – Marvel Allen on why he chose Georgetown

Allen Lands at Montverde | HoyaReport.com

This season, the team will lean heavily on a unique prospect, one that has committed to Georgetown; though he’s currently injured, Class of 2023 point guard Marvel Allen is a prized recruit for the Hoyas.

Allen, a shifty point guard known for his dazzling athleticism and ability to score it off the bounce committed to the Hoyas over the summer. While he initially committed to LSU when at Calvary Christian in Fort Lauderdale, the West Palm Beach native re-opened his recruitment following the dismissal of previous LSU coach Will Wade. Walking a very thin line all season with the NCAA hot on his trail, Wade was fired following a wave of NCAA rules violations.

Georgetown assistant Kevin Nickelberry, previously on LSU’s staff under Wade, was able to re-recruit Allen after being hired by Patrick Ewing in late March of 2022.

Allen committed to Georgetown in July, after decommitting from LSU in March.

Georgetown led the recruitment most of the time since his decommitment, but Allen’s stock had been rising over the summer. Allen was recruited by Kevin Nickelberry while he was at LSU—and Allen committed to the Tigers in early 2022. Allen took an official visit to Georgetown early in the summer after Nickelberry’s hiring. Other suitors were popping up.

Pangos AA Camp Sunday standouts: Marvel Allen, Boogie Fland, Kaden Cooper and more | 247SPORTS

Camps like Pangos will always favor guards because they have the ball in their hands and there aren’t exactly a lot of plays being run. Sometimes that leads to big games that are the result of a lot of, well let’s call it “freedom” when it comes to shot selection.

Four-star combo guard Marvel Allen had a big night to open camp, but it wasn’t due to jacking up shots or gunning, it came from taking the open shots available to him – often thanks to the smart passing of 2024 point guard Elliot Cadeau – and being aggressive to the rim when given the opportunity. Headed to Montverde (Fla.) Academy for his senior season, Allen was draining threes, finishing contested dunks in transition, and bringing a lot of juice for a guy who flew through three time zone and wasn’t playing until almost midnight in Florida.

Formerly committed to LSU, Allen is navigating through the recruiting process again. He took an April official visit to Georgetown and is now sorting through an avalanche of suitors.

Now the Hoyas have him—officially signed.

Four-star Marvel Allen commits to Georgetown | 247SPORTS

Ranked No. 49 overall by 247Sports in the class of 2023, the 6-foot-4 combo guard from Montverde (Fla.) Academy committed to Georgetown.

“After exploring all options throughout my recruitment process, I’ve realized how important relationships are and trust I’ve decided to commit to Georgetown University because of my relationships with coach Ewing and Nickleberry and them being there for me when things got tough,” posted Allen on Instagram. “I appreciate all the coaches who’ve took the time out too recruit me through the process” …

A savvy combo guard with skill, Allen is best known for his ability to score the ball. He is able to get to the rim, finish through contact and he can get hot with his jumper.
