Patrick Ewing, Georgetown nearing a historically bad season after falling to 0-16 in the Big East

February 25, 2022 by Zags Blog

By HENRY EISENBERG

When coach Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas lost to DePaul, 68-65, at home on Thursday night, it marked their 16th straight loss to start Big East play this season.

Coming into the 2021-22 season, the record for failure in Big East Conference play was 0-18, which occurred twice, most recently by DePaul during the 2008-09 season.

With three games left in the regular season, the Hoyas are trending towards rewriting the history books and could finish 0-19. The DePaul game appeared to be their best opportunity at notching a win before the season ends.

Exhale.

Georgetown’s final three chances to pick up their first victory only get harder. After a home game vs UConn, the Hoyas will head on the road to face off against Seton Hall and Xavier to wrap up the regular season.

Looking at the light within the dark that has been this Georgetown season, junior center Malcolm Wilson blessed everyone with a very unique free throw routine.

In all seriousness, there have been some positives this season for Georgetown. Freshman Aminu Mohammed has embraced the lead role and ran with it. He totaled 18 points and nine rebounds. In his first season, Mohammed is already one of the best rebounding guards in the Big East.

The Hoyas’ next game is Sunday afternoon against Dan Hurley and red-hot UConn (20-7, 11-5) U at Capital One Arena.
