Rothstein reports the Hoyas will host Creighton on Dec. 18th

News about the BIG EAST schedule has been leaking recently and Jon Rothstein has reported the first game of 2024-25 conference play for your Georgetown Hoyas will be hosting the Creighton Bluejays on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Capital One Arena hosts the Washington Capitals on the 14th and the Wizards on the 19th, so it looks like the arena will be available for the Hoyas to start their march through the conference.

Moreover, according to Rothstein’s reports, BIG EAST play appears to start as early as Tuesday, December 10th, with DePaul hosting Providence!

Georgetown’s nonconference schedule finally heats up around that time with a trip to West Virginia on Friday, December 6th (Big 12-BIG EAST Battle) and a flight to Syracuse for a game on Saturday, December 14th. Providence and DePaul also have Big 12 matchups lined up with BYU visiting the Friars on Dec. 3rd and the Blue Demons visiting Texas Tech on Dec. 4th.

Rothstein has also indicated the Marquette starts their conference schedule by hosting Butler on December 18th, with UConn hosting Xavier that evening.

Villanova reportedly opens BIG EAST play a day earlier, on Tuesday the 17th, by hosting Seton Hall, along with St. John’s hosting DePaul at Carneseca Arena.

While the BIG EAST is definitely a gauntlet of games, the young Hoyas squad could use a bit of luck in facing some of their rivals. Any game might be winnable on any given day, but stacking the home games against the lower-middle portion of the standings towards a more-mature February could help Ed Cooley build some momentum at the right time.

Additionally, drawing Saturday afternoon games against the top conference teams could help inject some excitement into the arena and season ticket holders.

Despite the two November games slated for McDonough, the nonconfence schedule was met with many, many shoulder shrugs.

Reading between the lines on the conference news, it sounds like the full BIG EAST schedule will be released imminently. Last year, the schedule was released on September 15th, 2023, with the TV coverage coming out at the end of the month. BIG EAST Media Day is October 23rd.

While FS1 is likely still the focal point for games, it’s still a mystery how often the Hoyas may be found in the “package of 25 regular season games” featured only on the streaming platform Peacock.
