Cooley adds Diouf and Halaifonua to bolster front court immediately

After committing to the Georgetown Hoyas the other week, Netherlands 2025 Forward Seal Diouf has reclassified to 2024 and is expected to soon arrive on the Hilltop to join Ed Cooley and the team.

Georgetown’s Seal Diouf has been cleared and is officially reclassifying to the Class of ‘24.

A few short weeks ago, when the Hoyas had questionable front-court depth, Diouf emerged as a recruiting target for Ed Cooley and then became the first 2025 recruit to commit to GU. Now, Seal joins a highly rated 2024 class of Thomas Sorber, Kayvan Mulready, and Caleb Williams.

Julius Halaifonua, who committed Monday, is another international big. The Hoyas suddenly have some height, albeit young size.

Cooley also added transfers Jordan Burks, Curtis Williams Jr., Malik Mack, and Micah Peavy. Drew McKenna is also expected to play for the first time, with Drew Fielder and Jayden Epps being the only two returning student-athletes with GU minutes under their belts. Hoyas fans are excited to see the talent take the floor and get this rebuild back on track.

The often-listed-at-6’9” Diouf, currently the 35th ranked center in the Class of ‘25, is a physical prospect who can run the floor and protect the rim—attributes that can clearly be a boost to the Georgetown roster.

Diouf told On3, “Choosing Georgetown was a combination of many factors … The school’s academic reputation and its rich basketball history are its own thing. Georgetown has a legacy of developing top-tier talent and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be part of something great. Additionally, the location in Washington D.C. offers a unique experience both on and off the court. I’m blessed with the chance to be part of such a vibrant and diverse community.”

Diouf continued, “Coach Cooley and his staff provided a sense of genuine care and commitment, not just to the game but to the players’ overall growth,” and “I want to help the team win in whatever way I can. It is a dream of mine to contribute to winning at the next level. People like my activity near the rim but its the other parts of my game I’m looking to expand.”

Look for a commitment soon from 2025 @VegasEliteBC big man @Seal_Diouf who has had a terrific summer https://t.co/LFQu36HBPI

ZagsBlog had this to say:

Diouf is originally from the Netherlands and plays with the men’s national team in FIBA. The big man also speaks several languages including Dutch, French and English.

Diouf was unable to play at Peach Jam with Vegas Elite due to an injury, but he was a crucial piece in getting the squad to the prestigious tournament.

At Session 4 in Kansas City, Vegas Elite had to rally and win games to slip into the field. Diouf contributed 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game to the effort and helped Vegas to a 3-2 record.

From another article on Diouf on ZagsBlog:

At Nike EYBL Session 4, Diouf averaged 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game to help Vegas Elite to a 3-2 record and slip into the Peach Jam field. He also shot a whopping 70.9% from the field while averaging 22.5 minutes per game. “I can score easily from anywhere,” Diouf said of his game. “But it’s really just who’s open. I’m a great passer too. I try to look for my teammates. But really, I just play hard, and I don’t think there’s anyone who plays harder than me. I try to make the winning play every time, whether that’s me or my teammates. I try to contribute to winning.”

Georgetown: “It’s the culture for sure. It’s great to be a Hoya. Everyone wants to be a Hoya. Everybody loves it there. So it’s something I think a lot of people want to be a part of. Coach [Ed] Cooley, he does it man. He makes pros. He makes winners. It’s just a great program.”

6-8 Seal Diouf (Vegas Elite) is making big waves for a small-school prospect. The Senegalese/Dutch big man plays for the Dunn School, a small boarding school in Los Olivos. Supremely athletic with a high level motor, his rebounding and rim running is forceful and impactful. pic.twitter.com/0uFGf6kF8q

Though Diouf did not release a final list of schools, programs involved in his recruitment included Texas Tech, Michigan, Washington, San Francisco and UC-Santa Barbara.
